Suzani Cushion set at the Sreejith house (Styling: Chestnut Home Stylists)
Originally, the Suzani motifs were majorly floral designs, vines and geometric patterns. The patterns were predominantly in the shape of a “butah” meaning tear drop. It is hence obvious why the Jaipuri prints are also majorly floral in their designs. They all have their roots in the Suzani style.
The Suzani prints being repetitive butahs in various sizes, are predominantly used as a niche decor accessory. They are used for carpets or wall hangings. With the growth of machinery, the original motifs have been contemporised into modern designs suited for modern spaces and aesthetics.

Typically a suzani fabric would take days and days to create. These were originally made when a girl is born to be presented during her wedding as dowry. Such was the worth, purity and prestige associated with this beautiful fabric.
Our journey in search of exquisite fabrics has helped us see the value of this incredible style and we at Chestnut have curated a range of Suzani cushions to adorn the interiors of your home and office spaces.
You are welcome to get in touch with us to get your hands on these pieces of tradition.
